Circle Introduction
Your hosts Nicky and Emma will welcome you to the course and set out the course aims. We encourage you to bring a dedicated notebook to use for the duration of the course. We will introduce the seasons within the Celtic Wheel of the Year and how these have been marked throughout history. Please bring a nature inspired item so we can co-create a centre piece for our circle.
Imbolc
Theme: Promise and Potential. IMBOLC - also known as Brigid’s Day, is celebrated each February 1 at the halfway point between Yule (Winter Solstice) and Ostara (Spring Equinox). The word ‘Imbolc’ itself means in the belly which is a direct reference to a new stirring of life and possibility. We will offer a nature crafting activity to align with this seasonal energy.

Spring Equinox - Ostara
Theme: Balance and Beauty. At equinox we have the balance of light & dark. Ostara is a time of warmth returning to the soil and growth everywhere, with the hours of light increasing until Litha (Summer Solstice).
Beltane
Theme: Joy and Love. Bel (good) tan (fire). Just like the tree sap that rises in early spring that enables the trees to transform into leaf, we too experience this energy within our bodies at this time of Beltane. We will notice what brings up our energy and light the fires of our creativity and feminine energy. Traditional May Day celebrations were historically joyous occasions as villagers gathered to welcome the return of the warmer months, dancing around the maypole, selecting a May Queen and in addition to the dancing figure of the Jack-in-the-Green (Green Man).

Summer Solstice - Litha
Theme: Health, healing and strength. Solstice comes from the Latin word solstitium meaning 'sun standing still', as it appears to hang steady in the sky. This festival marks the longest daylight hours and shortest night of the year. Our ancient ancestors celebrated this point in the year as evidenced by many stone circles and standing stones aligned to the rising solstice sun. This point is all about expansion and growth throughout nature. It's also about personal empowerment, so we will acknowledge how we reclaim our light/worth. We will take our circle outdoors for this session (weather permitting).

Lammas - First Harvest
Themes: sacrifice, nourishment, giving. The festival of Lammas is a time to gather the first harvest - a grain harvest. Days are growing shorter now, farmers will be harvesting corn, wheat and barley. This was a time our ancestors would come together to bring the harvest in. Lammas, also known as loaf-mass was a time to make bread by hand and appreciate the nourishment the first harvest brought. We will think about our own nourishment and acknowledge any sacrifices we may have made this year.

Autumn Equinox - Mabon
Themes: wisdom, expansion, fruit harvest. The autumn equinox is the second point of pause in the wheel of the year. This is the point where we meet opposition as well as balance. This period is about letting go and moving towards our winter. We will explore how we let go.

Samhain - All Hallows eve
Themes: Honouring our ancestors, death. This is one of the festivals that dates back to the dark ages. We will honour our ancestors and explore our own relationship with endings in nature and life. Samhain marks the point where we enter the dark part of the year as the clocks go back an hour, the nights are drawing in, nature is turning inward. This is the point where we slow down, pause and sit with the stillness.

Winter Solstice - Yule
Themes: resting, shining light in the darkness, birth. Our final session together is marking Winter Solstice and season of Yule. The darkest part of the year and the birth of the infant sun at this winter solstice point where we mark the longest night and shortest day! Here we explore this worldwide archetype the birth of the sun/son as we get an average of 6 minutes more light per day after this point. We will say goodbye to our circle and give thanks for the gifts we have created internally and externally.
